About the Webinar
SIDS account for less than 1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet they are at the frontlines of climate change. SIDS face some of the most severe impacts of climate change, with serious loss and damage in the form of destroyed infrastructure, economic and cultural loss, loss of lives and livelihoods, loss of biodiversity and forced displacement. 1
As early as 1992, SIDS were recognized as a special case both for their environment and development at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 2
Yet, these threatened and diverse sovereignties are among the least-studied regions in the world, eading to inadequate and under discovered solutions for their future. Our experts from around the world will explore the geographic and economic characteristics of SIDS, current resources, and deficiencies, and identify pathways to solutions.
